ABOUT THE TUTOR
Mr Kelvin Yap has been teaching English Language and English Literature since 1997. He has also authored numerous assessment books in English Language (Upper/Lower Secondary) and General Paper, which are retailed in Popular Bookstore outlets. He is also the author of Ten-Year Series answer booklets (GCE 'A', 'O', 'NA' and 'NT' Levels); the answers for the 2019 national examinations are currently being retailed.
In Bendemeer Secondary School, he achieved value-added results in both English Language and English Literature for the school in 2001-2003, as HOD (English).
In Raffles Institution, he taught 'O' Level classes in 2004 (achieving results of 80% distinctions) and the Integrated Programme from 2005 to 2013.
While in Temasek Junior College, he taught General Paper and English Literature (H1 & H2), with his GP students achieving 73% A/B grades and 100% passes in the 2016 GCE 'A' Levels.
In the 2017 GCE 'A' Levels, Mr Yap's GP students achieved 48% A grades, 81% A/B grades and 100% passes. For H2 English Literature (2017), his students achieved A and B grades.
In the 2018 GCE 'A' Levels, his GP students achieved 45% A grades, 86% A/B grades and 100% passes.
In the 2019 GCE 'A' Levels, his GP students achieved 50% A grades, 94% A/B grades and 100% passes.
In the 2017, 2018 and 2019 GCE 'O' Levels, Mr Yap's students have achieved 65% distinctions (A1/A2 grades) and 100% passes.
Mr Yap provides customised, no-frills instruction and detailed feedback. His lessons are up-to-date and concise, factoring in current assessment trends pertaining to national examinations.
Other than inculcating a love of the English Language in his students, he aims to develop proficient and competent learners, not only in harnessing and utilising the authoritative power of language, but also in employing language effectively to wield authority and influence in their daily and lifelong interactions.
